In 1927, PEZ was created by Eduard Haas III in Vienna, Austria and was marketed as a breath mint for adults.     The name PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint, pfefferminz. The first, middle, and last letter were used to create the iconic brand name.     Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs hosted the very first PEZ Dispenser Day at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, June 14th, 2000. The game was at 1:20pm and the Chicago Cubs were playing against the New York Mets. The first 15,000 fans who entered the gate received a limited edition Charlie Brown dispenser wearing a Cubs hat and a souvenir card to go with it.   The first PEZ dispensers were called Regulars and resembled a cigarette lighter. PEZhead: A term used to describe a PEZ collector Color variations: Color variations describe PEZ dispensers made from the same mold, but have different colored parts. Sometimes the entire head will be a different color and sometimes one or more parts will be a different color. Club Med is a specific term for a color variation in which the character’s face is very tan as if they had been out in the sun. Color variations can also be used to describe different colored stems on similar dispensers. Marbleized: A term used to describe a dispenser in which two or more colors of plastic are combined but not thoroughly mixed, causing a swirling pattern that resembles marble. Highly sought after variation. Melt Mark: Damage on a dispenser caused by direct heat or chemical reactions between the plastic of the dispenser and other types of rubber or plastic.   Double-Down Stem: A dispenser stem in which the word “PEZ” is inscribed from top to bottom on both sides. Anatomy of the Pez Dispenser

     The traditional PEZ Dispenser is comprised of multiple parts, including the button, the channel, feet, pins, the head, the kicker, the sleeve, the spine, springs, and the stem. The stem refers to the lower part of the dispenser, which is where you will find the spine, the sleeve, the channel, and the button. The stem typically has the PEZ logo on at least one side. Some older dispensers might have die-cut stems or be completely smooth on the side. The side of the stem is also where you would find the country of origin, patent number, and injection mold code.      The spine is the groove that runs down the stem on the back of the dispenser and the channel is the groove that runs down the stem on the front of the dispenser.
